Day 90 - Thursday 29 July 2010

Sandal. A pair of Debs' sandals left at in the hall at the bottom of the stairs. I tripped over them a couple of times so they became the subject of todays picture...

Day 89 - Wednesday 28 July 2010

Sian. No... I haven't persuaded my daughter to strip off for this shot! She has a couple of really nice party dresses she bought for the school prom and for parties which she now wants to sell on eBay. She asked me to take pictures of her wearing the dresses which I did, in the garden with a hedge as a background. One dress is backless and this is a crop and processed picture from the of the shoot...

Day 88 - Tuesday 27 July 2010

Peace Lilly. The adapter tubes for the V1 arrived today so I just had to have a play! No more hand-holding the macro filter. This is one of the very unusual flowers on the Peace Lilly in our kitchen...

Day 87 - Monday 26 July 2010

Parfum. Purple purfume in a fancy glass bottle that resembles one of those vinegar dispensers you see in cafes. I'm not making any comparison between the usual contents of the bottles, honest...

Day 86 - Sunday 25 July 2010

Knobs. A pair of door handles on one of the wall cupboards in my home office. This room was the kitchen before the extension was built so now it is technically windowless and fairly dark hence the use of ISO 800. The result is pretty noisy...

Saturday 24 July 2010

Day 85 - Saturday 24 July 2010

Rusty bolt. It's amazing how ordinary everyday objects take on a whole new look when viewed through the viewfinder, or in the case of this and most of my 365 pictures, on the LCD screen of a compact camera - especially when the camera is set to wide angle and the macro filter is used. I planned to convert this picture of the padlock bolt on my side gate to black & white but but I love the colours of the rust...

Friday 23 July 2010

Day 84 - Friday 23 July 2010

Kiss & Cuddle. Taking some inspiration from Clive's recent spate of statuette pictures, though I did do 'The Kiss' on day 4 which was a glass statue of a kissing couple. This one is a small wood carving Debs bought in Tunisia to add to her collection of kissing and/or hugging figurines...

Day 83 - Thursday 22 July 2010

String of Pearls. Back to the mundane today and a picture using the hand held macro filter on the V1. Inspired by Ian's mastery of close-up photography of the mundane subject (click 'Ian's 365' in my favorite links list on the right and go to July to see what I mean!) though I'm struggling to match his vision...

Day 82 - Wednesday 21 July 2010

Cover-up! This may raise a few eyebrows! It's something I've been wanting to try for while and I've finally found the courage to do it. It was surprisingly difficult to get right as it was important that nothing was showing that shouldn't be showing...

Day 81 - Tuesday 20 July 2010

Scrolly thing! Monday night's shift over I'm heading over the middle bridge on my way to the staff car park when I decide to take this picture of a piece of scroll work adorning one of the iron gates on the bridge used to occasionally close off the platforms from the bridge. I was thinking of yesterday's lack of success in finding a picture but as this was taken a 01:22 it didn't qualify! Nice one for today though...

Day 80 - Monday 19 July 2010

PA. A frustrating day today, picture wise. I had left for work earlier than I needed to and drove the scenic route through the Vale of Belvoir because most of the fields are golden yellow with wheat (?) just ready for harvesting. Nothing I tried looked good though so I stuffed the camera in my bag in annoyance and continued on to work! So when I was in my cab and noticed this reflection in the PA handset, the only device I had to record the picture was my mobile phone! Cest la vie...

Day 79 - Sunday 18 July 2010

Mind the doors! This is one of those views you see by accident and you just know its's going to be your 365 picture today. This HST (High Speed Train) service had arrived in platform 4 at Nottingham station and the mass exodus of passengers had already taken place leaving an empty train with all it's doors open...

Day 78 - Saturday 17 July 2010

20B. Bridge number 20B at Nottingham station is the centre footbridge that featured in my day 24 image. This is taken under the north end of the bridge where the stairs go down to Station street...

Friday 16 July 2010

Day 77 - Friday 16 July 2010

Shadow. Taken first thing this morning whilst bleary eyed having just rolled out of bed and waiting for the kettle to boil. The sun was casting the shadow of an overgrown Hebe in the front garden onto to the vertical blinds in the lounge...

Day 76 - Thursday 15 July 2010

Jack frost. This is a close up of the pattern on the obscure glass in our bathroom. It looks very much like the frost patterns left on the glass I remember from my childhood. You don't see it anymore... probably due to the double glasing and central heating we have now...

Day 75 - Wednesday 14 July 2010

Reflection. My house reflected in the window of my car. The shot was taken as the sun emerged following a brief thunderstorm...

Day 74 - Tuesday 13 July 2010

Radiator. Just a simple shot of the top of the radiator in my home office. What isn't simple is the processing! I was playing around with an inverted layer and trying out various layer modes on it. This one is in 'subtract' mode and the result converted to mono. I quite like the high contrast, grainy look...

Day 73 - Monday 12 July 2010

Rain! At last, after 4 weeks of scorching heatwave, the heavens open in the East Midlands. Didn't hear anyone complaining though! I got soaked walking home from work even though I was wearing a coat! Loved it...

X Box. Still playing with the hand held macro filter! This is the keyboard on Evan's X-box controller...

Saturday 10 July 2010

Day 71 - Saturday 10 July 2010

Gripping stuff. I decided to give macro another go with the V1, but this time using macro and close-up filters. I don't have a filter adapter for this camera so I had to hand hold them in front of the lens. Bit awkward but it works! This picture is of a hair grip and is a crop from the original...

Day 70 - Friday 09 July 2010

Poppies! At last... I found some poppies, and no walking involved, they were close to the road! (Appologies to the guy in the Lexus behind me for the sudden brake/swerve manouver!) Okay, I had to stand on the edge of an enormouse manure pile to get the shot but the smelly shoes were worth it I think...

Thursday 8 July 2010

Day 69 - Thursday 08 July 2010

Backlit bloom. Far too dull and cloudy for a landscape this morning! Fortunately the sun made an appearance late afternoon and I just had time to nip out to the garden for this backlit flower before going to work...

Wednesday 7 July 2010

Day 68 - Wednesday 07 July 2010

Rosebay Willowherb. Quite dull and overcast on this mornings little walk so I was looking for some foreground interest against a nice blurred background. Where are all the poppies when you want them! Still, the Rosebay made a nice enough subject...

Tuesday 6 July 2010

Day 67 - Tuesday 06 Jule 2010

Meadow. Day 2 of Evan's work experience and I went back to the 3 trees location from yesterday but took one look and moved on without pressing the shutter.

Walked along a footpath next to the river Witham instead and found this meadow. The shot is into the rising sun so lots of flare and a big patch of burned out sky that even a 3 stop ND grad couldn't cope with. I liked the sky and the sun backlighting the grass.

I'm quite enjoying a little stroll after dropping Evan off so landscapes could be a bit of a theme this week!

Monday 5 July 2010

Day 66 - Monday 05 July 2010

Wheat. Having dropped Evan off in Syston on day 1 of his work experience, I took the scenic route home looking for today's image. I found a nice scene with 3 trees but it just wasn't working so I turned around and saw the wheat field. This is my favorite as I quite like the sharp foreground/blurred background look in a landscape...

Sunday 4 July 2010

Day 65 - Sunday 04 July 2010

Vertical shadows. Here I am sat in the sunroom again (I don't spend all my time here... honest!), this time waiting for the mens Wimbledon final to start and watching the shadows thrown by the patio door vertical blinds. Come on Berdych!

Saturday 3 July 2010

Day 64 - Saturday 03 July 2010

3 legged table. Sitting in the sunroom this afternoon half heartedly watching yet another boring Williams Wimbledon win and noticed the interesting shadow being cast by the coffee table (it's a plant stand really!)...

Amber nectar. In this case a pint of Gaymers cider served on ice and consumed whilst watching Andy Murray struggling against Raphael Nadal...

Day 62 - Thursday 01 July 2010

Window box. Window decoration on the front of Nottingham station. This was a difficult exposure as the window looks in on the taxi rank which has a glass roof with sun shining through...
